Electrostatic spray guns
View CategoryElectrostatic spray guns have a high voltage difference of 40,000 to 85,000 volts depending on the model, between the spraygun and the work being sprayed; this charges the paint particles leaving the spraygun, attracting them strongly to the work, encircling it and drawing the particles to surfaces not directly visible from the spraygun, ensuring a good coating of them all. Electrostatic spray will not penetrate holes, which cause a charge free zone because of the Faraday cage effect. The strong attraction of the paint particles almost eliminates any overspray, so electrostatic spray is also often in situations where spraying would not otherwise be allowed. Electrostatic spray cannot be used in anything other than a very light wind, depending on the spraygun model, so is mainly used in inside situations, but a temporary enclosure can be used to shield it from the elements, eg when spraying railings and gates. The electrostatic voltage is often generated by an external unit with a high voltage cable connected to the spraygun; one manufacturer Graco has the voltage generator built into the spraygun.

Graco Fusion 2K gun 2-component spray guns
View CategoryThese sprayguns have 2 material pathways to keep them apart until they enter a mixing chamber just before being sprayed from the gun. This type of 2-component spray gun is very useful for spraying materials with a very short pot life, usually 5 to 20 seconds, such as polyurethane (PU) insulation foam with a 1:1 mixing ratio
