The painter spraying inside the spray booth must wear a full face breathing mask supplied with clean air from a compressor located outside the booth. The air must be passed through a particle filter and activated carbon filters to remove any solvent vapours or other toxic products. If an air drier is used in the air supply to the booth, this should be located downstream of the breathing equipment, as the very dry air can lead to a sore throat of the sprayer using it.
Paint kitchen
The law requires compressed air systems to be inspected periodically, usually once a year, with particular attention to the air receiver (storage tank).
Paint mixing must be done inside a special room fitted with an extractor. This is often called a paint kitchen and installed immediately adjacent to the booth to be able to use the same exhaust chimney.
