Power Painting® of commercial properties such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities and public assembly areas will benefit greatly from the very fast application rates, which when spraying, will be 10 - 15 times faster than a hand roller. But commercial work may also include the more confined spaces of hotel bedrooms and offices, that can also benefit from the use of the equipment to obtain a superior finish rather than just speed.
Spraying large areas such as warehouse walls with emulsion paint, will need a high flow rate of paint, of the order of 2 to 3 litres per minute calling for a large airless unit capable of supporting a single spray gun with up to a 29 thou’ spray tip. At the other end of the scale, spraying the same emulsion in a small room would only need a 15 thou’ spray tip which would be easily supported by a small compact airless pump (please see the sections on small/general decorating jobs).
If the paint to be sprayed is emulsion or lighter materials, consideration should be given to a light and portable unit for each man, rather than a single large unit powering several guns. A one-man unit is more flexible and can be assigned to an individual who takes responsibility for its maintenance and safe keeping. In general, multiple gun units cost the same multiple in cost as the number of single units that they replace.
Whilst emphasis in this section is on the spray capabilities of this equipment, it can also be used to power suitable airless rollers in situations where the risk of overspray drifting on to nearby objects, is too great, such as in car parks or working in high winds. Some applications require a mechanical action as provided by a roller, such as new block walls or floor coatings. Internally fed rollers with perforated covers will save about 50% of time over a hand roller by not having to coat it, whilst a spray roller will save about 75%. A spray roller is particularly useful for applying Blockfiller in one go.
