These are available in various lengths to mount a spray head or a roller head, described above. They must be rated to support the maximum pressure of the pump and painters should be aware that there are a number of low pressure pole systems on the market that would be dangerous if connected to an airless unit. Pay particular attention to the pressure rating of any telescopic poles that may be offered; this should be clearly marked on it.
If the pole is to be used to carry a roller, it should be strong enough to take the weight of the painter bearing down on it. Check the volume of paint in the pole, which can become quite heavy if it is large. The paint channel only needs to be about 4mm in diameter, so to achieve this and still have a strong pole, several manufacturers supply an alloy pole with a central paint channel supported by 3 webs to an outside tube 25mm in diameter to give great strength and light weight.
As you may wish to join several lengths of pole together, each pole needs to be sufficiently strong, so that the combined pole is acceptably rigid and not like a fishing rod.
